The Big Link-Up from the Cultural Learning Alliance - posted 29.7.2010 The Big Link-Up from the Cultural Learning Alliance

dates: 1 to 5 November 2010

On the week of 1 to 5 November the Cultural Learning Alliance will be leading The Big Link-Up – a celebration of the richness and strength of cultural learning, and a nationwide debate to discuss how the education and cultural sectors can work together to maintain and further this activity for children and young people.

You may have already signed up to the Cultural Learning Alliance – a year-long campaign to promote and protect cultural learning, which was launched in March. If not, you are invited to sign up now and add your name to the hundreds of people across the country who are showing their support. The Big Link-Up aims to connect children and young people, cultural practitioners, teachers and policy-makers to celebrate and debate cultural learning.

There are four ways you can get involved in The Big Link-Up week:
• Run an Assembly Event – get your school involved in The Big Link-Up by holding an Assembly to celebrate the cultural learning that takes place in your school;
• Run a Link-Up Event – bring cultural practitioners, teachers and leaders in your local cultural learning network together;
• The Big Link-Up National Event on 3 November which will bring cultural learning leaders and decision-makers together to discuss the challenge;
• Watch a live stream of The Big Link-Up National Event online and see what our cultural learning leaders have to say.

If you want to get involved see more at www.thebiglinkup.org.uk and sign up to the campaign now. Hold 3 November in your diaries for The Big Link-Up Event and Live Stream, and think about how your organisation can get involved in Assembly and Link-Up events.

Get Legal - training in your region - posted 15.7.2010 Get Legal - training in your region

Last week we featured a news item about Get Legal, a new online tool to help organisations find the right legal and governance structures. NVCO is also offering free training around the England for advisors who support individuals and organisations around governance and legal structures.

For many individuals and groups wanting to establish a new organisation one of the biggest challenges is deciding on the legal form and governance structure of the organisation. Choices are often based on dominant legal forms or preconceptions rather than well informed consideration of a range of structures. Problems can also arise if organisations want to change their legal structures or governing documents. The Get Legal training is designed to help development workers and advisors help organisations to overcome these challenges.

• London – 22 July 2010
• Cambridge – 23 July 2010
• Nottingham – 9 September 2010
• Exeter – 13 September 2010
• Manchester – 17 September 2010
• Leeds – 20 September 2010
• Newcastle – 28 September 2010
• Birmingham – 4 October 2010
• South East Region – to be confirmed

The session will also include case study exercises and hands-on practical examples to help you apply the learning to your work. There will also be opportunities to ask your questions about legal structures.

The event is free to attend for development workers and advisors from infrastructure and support organisations. Due to funding restrictions, this training is not open to consultants at this time. To find out more and book your place, visit www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/training-events. Places are limited.
